No matter what niche you market to building a list has always got to be one of your uppermost priorities. The reasons behind this are obvious but if you want to have a sustainable business and a good building block to grow of then an email list is by far and away the best way to achieve this.

The truth is that overall list size isnt overly important. The fact is that if you have a huge subscriber base then you will undoubtedly have a better opportunity to turn those subscribers into buyers.

That is how you need to view your list, its an opportunity to make money it is not guaranteed money in the bank.

Building and maintaing a list basically falls under 3 steps

One: Getting people to subscribe to your list
Two: Building a relationship with them so they give a shit about what you have to say
Three: Gaining that trust where they will consider buying something of your recommendation.

To often people focus on there subsriber numbers, i.e growing a massive list of prospects. They look at how many people are on their list and that is what they base their success on.
Its the wrong mindset to have.

Often people think “wow i have 10,000 subscribers, im going to make a shit load of money by sending them emails” and yet what they fail to realize is that some other dude in their market only has a 1000 subscribers and is not only converting them from prospects to buyers more successfully but is also making more sales that you. Period!

Why is this?

The simple is being able to properly manage your list. What you need to understand is that a email list needs to be looked after like a pet, groomed in a sense to firstly open your emails and secondly pay attention to the point you are trying to make and thirdly trust you enough to have a look at what your offering.

You know you have hit the jackpot when your list trust you enough to instantly buy something on your recommendation alone without even properly having a look at what’s on offer. (And yes this does happen) How many times have you bought something because an expert in your field is using it. Maybe you do weights and a guy in mens health magazine is using a certain workout routine and using a certain supplement… the next thing you know a lot of people out there give it a go.

The reason behind it is trust, they trust you, they believe tht you wont recommend to them some shitty product that isnt worth two cents. Getting to that stage takes time, but paying attention to your list needs is the key to getting there.

In saying that you are going to want to squeeze as much money out of your list as possible, some may see that as unethical statement or whatever but its fact. But good email marketers know how to achieve this without having their list being pissed of at them.

Im not saying promote, promote, promote to your list, that will piss them of! Im saying to do it in a smart way that doesnt feel intrusive. You need to understand the reasons why people are on your list, next you need to strike up a, i know were your coming from, i get it, relationship with them and lastly you need to provide the proper information, whether it be products or articles or services your using that will also help them to improve at whatever it is their hoping to improve at. Whether it be making more money or fitting exhausts to cars.
