Basics Of SEO
I just want to begin by saying SEO isn’t as hard as some people would like you to believe. In order to rank high you really only need to pay attention to 3 major factors.
1) On page optimization
2) Off Page Optimization
3) Content
Each factor contains a whole host of variables which are very easy to maniuplate can control in order to boost your rankings. When it comes to getting top spot on Google these days you have to make everything look as natural as possible. Your aim must be to provide your visitor with useful content. There is no point in trying to trick the search engines and to be quite honest you dont even need to in order to get good rankings and more importantly traffic. As we all know more traffic equals more money. (In most cases)
You have got to understand that Google is spending millions of dollars each year on programming to try and keep the spam sites out of their results and in doing so providing the kind of results they believe their visitors are searching for.
Hence the reas they brought in LSI (Latent Sematic Indexing) which in effect helps Google to think more like a human. For example it now understands that if your searching for “red cars” then you may also use terms such as “red vehicles, red motorcars” and so forth in your efforts to find the information your looking for.
LSI helps to factor all this information in and in return it provides the most relevant search results. Long gone are days were you plaster a page with one term in order to rank for it.
All that being said it really does baffle me that people waste their time trying to decide what Google likes and what Google wants in order to rank high, where Google itself is spending millions on improving their technolgy in order to think like a human.
The best bit of advice I can give you is stop caring about will “Google like this” and start thinking in terms of “does my website provide value to people who visit my site”. The sooner you get into that mindset then the sooner you will start achieving top rankings.
I’ll be honest discussing how to write or outsource content creation is a whole new topic of it’s own which I will be discussing in the near future so to avoid going off on a spiral that will make it difficult for you to understand the information im trying to teach, I’ll start with the basics. On Page Optimization –
In my opinion on page is in no way as important as off page optimization. In a word basically it just deals with the various on page (stuff on your site) factors that can help to improve your rankings.
1) Title Tag
2) Meta Decription And Keyword Tag
3) Header Tags (H1,H2 etc)
4) ALT Tags (Naming images that appear on your site)
5) Content on your site
What plays a huge part in helping you to improve your rankings is
Off Page Optimization –
Basically is one sentance it is, building a ton of quality backlinks to your website.
Years go it used to be more about quanity than quality of inbound link but that has all changed. Quanity is not important when it comes to link building. Some of you may argue and dispust this fact but I bet 100 quality inbound links will out rank any website that has 1000 shitty inbound links from crappy sources.
Thanks to some quality article directories and blog networks out there it has become easier to achieve quality inbound links but without the best source is web2.0 sites such as Squidoo, hubpages, gather and so forth.
These sites not only rank high by themselves but in the process give you some serious link love that will boost your own rankings and traffic. That’s if you use them correctly.
Probably the point were most people fail and that is not having a short and long term promotion plan in place for their websites. When you build a new site you have to give it a kick start when it comes to link building. But something that just popped into my head and that you must know is this…
** NEVER ADD ANY FORM OF ADSENSE OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF ADVERTISING TO A NEW SITE UNTIL ITS AT LEAST 30 DAYS OLD **
I have tested this over and over and without doubt new sites that leave all form of advertising of will rank quicker and start getting more traffic. You need to leave all forms of advertising of for at least 30 days on new websites.
End of my rant…now were was I….:-)
New sites need a kick start. I know there are rumors that go about saying building links to quickly looks unnatural. I agree but you need to build links more heavily at the start. Then settle into a long term promotion plan.
Here is a quick start guide on ways to build links:
Article directories
Blog networks
Web 2.0 sites
Reciprical Links (I would only have at max 40 reciprial link partners)
RSS Feed submissions (If you have an rss feed ping it using a service such as http://www.ping.in)
